A NEW INTERPRETIVE
NATURALIST
The Land Trust is pleased to announce that Brian
Pomfret has been contracted to develop and implement
ecology-based educational programming at Ruthven
Park using funding provided by the Ontario Trillium
Foundation. The expansion of outdoor educational
programming focus on the outstanding natural habitat
features and wildlife communities of Ruthven will
raise community awareness of the ecological and historical
significance of the site, increase visitorship and
community engagement, and provide another valuable
opportunity for volunteer participation.
Brian is the former wildlife biologist for Royal Botanical
Gardens in Burlington where he monitored avian,
insect and herpetile population levels, assisted with
habitat restoration and enhancement activities, and conducted
a wide range of environmental education and
outreach programming for all ages. He has been a volunteer
at the Ruthven Bird Banding Station since 2004.
Request for Assistance: The Ruthven Park Education
and Outreach Programme requires a quantity of clear
plastic pop bottles for the construction of bird feeders
and amphibian traps. Both 2l and 710 mm - 1l sizes
are required along with their caps. Please drop them off
at the Gate House during regular hours of operation.
