AT RUTHVEN

Over
the summer months Ruthven had over 3000 visitors including
local and many out of town visitors.
The Spirit Walk, held on October 26th, was one of the
best we have ever had with an attendance of 200. The theme
was1892,Ethelwyn Thompson's Debut.

We
were very fortunate to have Ethelwyn's great granddaughter,
Rosemary Dale, and her mother Nancy Colquhoun, in attendance.
Our
thanks to Barbara Martindale for once again writing a lively
script, Theatre Aquarius, Dundurn National Historic Site and
Whitehern Historic House and Garden for providing the costumes,
and to all the volunteers and committee members who took part
in the production.
David
Webb, Chief of Heritage Presentation, Niagara National Historic
Site, Parks Canada gave an illustrated talk November
11th, on the evolution and achievements of the Canadian
Expeditionary Force during World War 1.
Our
WW1 connection is with Colonel Andrew Thompson, commander
of the local 114th Haldimand Battalion, Brocks Rangers which
was a recruiting unit for Haldimand. Over 1000 young men signed
for duty under the Colonel including his two sons Andrew and
Walter.
The
Christmas Craft Workshop held on December 3rd was completely
sold out. Instructor Katherine Killins, shown in the photo
on the left, is assisting participants making natural greenery
swags.
